Core Business and Services
Embers of Healing is a First Nations social work advocacy group committed to holding systems and institutions accountable in upholding human rights, social justice, and the ongoing work of decolonising practice.
Embers of Healing operates across three interconnected areas of focus in the pursuit of decolonising social work practice and meaningful systems change: systemic change and accountability through advocacy and consultation; wellbeing and practice support for First Nations social workers, practitioners, organisations, and communities; and decolonising therapeutic and relational practice through cultural supervision, reflective practice, training, and workforce development.
-
The first area focuses on systemic change and accountability, working to challenge and transform structures, policies, and institutional practices that continue to uphold colonial systems within social work and human services.
This includes advocacy, consultation, critical reflection, and supporting organisations to move toward genuine decolonising action and accountability. This work centres the responsibility of institutions in creating culturally safe, ethical, and transformative practice for First Nations peoples and communities.
-
The second area centres direct wellbeing and practice support for First Nations social workers, practitioners, organisations, and communities. This includes cultural supervision and collective care, situational counselling, advocacy, mentoring, and tailored workforce training and development.
This work is grounded in relational holding, collective care, and strengthening sustainable wellbeing for those working within complex systems and community spaces.
-
The third area focuses on decolonising practice and ways of knowing, understanding, and engaging in therapeutic and relational work.
This involves supporting practitioners, organisations, and institutions to critically reflect on how colonial frameworks continue to shape understandings of clinical work, therapeutic modalities, wellbeing, and healing.
This work includes cultural supervision for non- indigenous practitioners (individual and group), reflective practice, wellbeing support, workforce development, and training.
This area seeks to expand how practitioners understand healing, relational practice, and culturally responsive ways of working.
